Frequently Asked
Yes. The shovel is UIAA 156 certified, which means it passed all required load tests for real avalanche use.
Yes. UIAA 156 requires every certified shovel to work down to –20 °C, and the PurePeak shovel passed that test.
It’s the only official safety standard for avalanche shovels. If a shovel is UIAA certified, it has been mechanically tested and proven strong enough for rescue.
Because with carbon, we can make the shovel thick where it needs to be strong, and thin where it doesn’t.
With aluminum, the whole shovel has to be the same thickness — even in places where it’s not needed.
So aluminum shovels carry extra weight. Carbon shovels don’t.
Carbon can crack if you hit it hard against sharp rocks, so a bit of care is needed.
But with the right fiber layout and design, it becomes very strong for its weight — which is why this shovel still passes the same safety tests as heavy aluminum shovels.
We offer aftermarket repairs. If something happens outside the warranty period, we can fix it instead of replacing it.
Yes. The shovel meets the geometry requirements of the UIAA 156 standard, which defines the minimum scoop size and handle length needed for efficient digging.
This ensures the shovel is not only light but also practical for real avalanche rescue use.
